Iraq - Mosul airport closed for an unknown duration

Posted: 11/09/2013

RPS has learned that Security forces in Iraq closed Mosul International Airport, located in Mosul city in the Ninewa governorate, yesterday.

All flights have now been cancelled. No reason has been given by airport authorities or security forces for the closure.

At the moment it is unclear whether airlines which service the airport were given prior warning regarding the closure or if contingency plans have been made. Associated flight delays and cancellations should be anticipated in the near-term.

The duration of the closure is also unclear. Anyone needing to transit through Mosul International Airport in the near-term is advised to contact their travel provider to confirm the status of services.
