Travelling to the Central African Republic?

Posted: 29/05/2013

RPS Partnership has received reports that 25 people have been killed in rebel attacks in the western Central African Republic (CAR) in recent days.

Militants of the Seleka rebel group, have been targetting a number of settlements near the town of Bossangoa, located in the north western Ouham prefecture.

The CAR has been experiencing a long period of nstability in recent months which culminated in the ousting of President Francois Bozize on 24 March by an alliance of five rebel groups collectively known as Seleka.

Following this, one of Seleka's commanders, Michel Djotodia, assumed the role of president and called upon all militants to disarm and demobilise. This does not appear to have happened and reported attacks by Seleka groups seem to be continuing against civilian settlements, particularly in the Ouham prefecture.

It appears that not all factions within the umbrella insurgent movement are supportive of Djotodia and there are concerns that the interim administration may also be subjected to a rebellion by members of the Seleka movement.

RPS Partnership advises any clients wishing to travel to the CAR to have robust security measures in place and to ensure that personal, residential and travel security measures are revised daily.

The political instability and the ongoing threat of conflict remains high in the CAR and may well only get worse in the coming months. Please contact RPS Partnership on [email protected] if you require any further assistance in your travel planning.
