Tripoli - Lebanon should be avoided in the next few days

Posted: 27/05/2013

Conflict continues between rival armed groups in Tripoli in Lebanon's northern city and it is reported that 28 people have now been killed, with hundreds of others injured.

Violence remains largely limited to the districts of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh, however, there have been reports of conflict in other areas of the city since Friday, including al-Mina, Abou Samra and Zahrieh.

The Lebanese Armed Forces have deployed to the affected parts of the city but this does not seem to have had any effect in lessening the violence.

RPS Partnership predicts that the violence will continue over the next few days with the clashes involving exchanges of gunfire, as well as mortar- and rocketfire with fighting remaining most intensive during night-time hours.

Due to the ongoing conflict and the threat of a further escalation in fighting, RPS Partnership advises clients to avoid travel to Tripoli until the situation calms.

Any clients with plans to travel to the city should certainly defer travel into or near the Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh districts and contact RPS Partnership for further advice. Unnecessary travel near security force installations and military troops should be also be avoided as well as travel at night in Tripoli.
