Libya - latest security update Tripoli

Posted: 24/08/2014

Reports have been coming out of Tripoli yesterday, Saturday 23 August evening, that the Misrata militia have finally taken control of Tripoli international airport as well as secondary reports that they now also have hold of Camp 27 and the surrounding area, which is stil yet to be confirmed.

Also in the early hours of today (Sunday 24 August) thre have been new reports of airstrikes in Tripoli hitting the Islamist 'Operation Dawn' forces in the Al Fallah and Al Akwakh districts of Tripoli.

The strikes were reportedly directed at several Islamist positions, including at the Ministry of Interior HQ and the Chief of Staff office. While heavy casualties were believed to be incurred, it appears that the Islamist militias did not retreat and continued to hold the territory in the area.

There are few flights, if at all any, going to Libya, so RPS can recommend getting in touch with SNE who are running a regular vehicle transportation service between Tripoli & Djerba (Tunisia).
