More news of terrorists being caught in Kenya

Posted: 19/03/2014

From Mombasa in Kenya, RPS sees that the Police are once again on high alert after they intercepted a vehicle carrying two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) at Changamwe, in the Mombassa area.

Two suspected terrorists were arrested; one Kenyan and one of Somali origin.

Police said that the explosives were connected to a mobile phone and had been powered by a car battery.

It appeared that the Police were fairly open about how they got the lead and told journalists that they got the information after the suspects communicated with their colleagues in Somalia. The Kenyan police obviously have been tracking the suspects who are believed to have crossed into Kenya sometime last month.

Bomb experts said that the explosives were capable of bringing down a 10 story building and had already been connected to the mobile phone that was to be used to detonate.

One person may have escaped and the police are still searching for him. Kenya does not appear to be able to get its terrorism problem under control. At present RPS still recommends that travellers can safely travel to Kenya, however security precautions must be taken to enable you to stay as safe as you can be whilst there.
