Nairobi - new modus operandi for carjacking in Kenya

Posted: 23/04/2014

There has been a spate of armed carjacking in Nairobi and security forces are warning of a new modus operandi in the city.

According to police reports, there has been a recent increase of gunpoint robberies in the capital using a method of operation known as “bump-and-rob” or ”fender-bender”.

Criminals purposely cause minor accidents, so as to force the victim out of the car in order to exchange information.

Armed assailants then hold victims up and rob them. As a result, at least two people have been killed and two others injured over the past week.

The criminals are reported to have increased operations in the, affluent areas of the Nairobi.

RPS advises travellers to Nairobi to be aware of these “bump-and-rob” techniques and to refrain from exiting vehicles during traffic accidents especially after dark or in isolated spots. If you are involved in an accident, then ensure that the involved parties have no malicious intentions.

If you can think about driving straight to the nearest police station where you can make a report.
