Tensions are elevated in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) following violent protests on 10 and 11 September 2015 in which opposition protesters clashed with security forces.

Protests were held in various locations by members of the opposition to protest incumbent Alssane Ouattara's bid for re-election in the country's upcoming presidential polls. Violent protests took place in the towns of Gagnoa and Bonoua, as well as the Yopougon district of the capital, Abidjan.

Protesters erected barricades and burned tires, causing security forces to respond with tear gas. At least one person was killed and several others were injured.

Social tensions remain high through Cote d'Ivoire ahead of the upcoming 25 October presidential elections and opposition groups have held intermittent protests in recent months.

The possibility for additional protests in the coming weeks remains high and RPS advises that all travllers in the region should avoid protests and keep informed of when they will take place. They may lead to travel disruptions, so ensure that plenty of time is left for travel on the days when there are demonstrations.
