RPS Partnership’s Head of Training, Cath Mossom, has just returned from a successful trip to South Sudan training the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF).

Contact RPS Partnership on [email protected] for advice and training if you are planning to travel to South Sudan in the near future. Have a look at our 3 day Hostile Environment Training (HET/HEAT) course here.

RPS Partnership has a long standing relationship with the IWMF and we have run many training courses with them in Central America and Africa. We are also supporting the ACOS Alliance in Thailand, running similar courses for regional journalists in Asia.

RPS Partnership runs Hostile Environment Training (HET) courses, with IWMF and this includes the First Aid element which we oversee and run.

Some of the comments we have received from the female journalists we trained are:

“Great course!  It was intense and tiring, but the best course of this type I have ever done”

“This was fantastic.  So helpful and practical.  Applicable to everyday life.  I also felt the staff did a great job balancing our needs and sensitivities with the training.”

“I really appreciated having a woman facilitator”

There are many issues associated with travelling to and working in South Sudan.  These range from government surveillance and tapping of phones; violations by security forces and undisciplined security forces; attacks; restrictions of movement and a great risk of sexual assault.  RPS Partnership has local partners who keep us up to date regarding the ever-changing  situation and work with us closely to ease the passage of people we train who are visiting the country.

Contact us for advice as we have the most up to date information on health, travel and what to eat and what to avoid.

Hotels

Well known hotels in Juba, which are probably the safest places to stay are as follows: Logali, Afex, Notos, Keren, James, Dembesh, Landmark, Juba Grand, Crown. But for foreigners, please be aware that many government officials stay in hotels in town, particularly the Crown, Landmark, Dembesh, Grand and New Sudan Palace Hotel.

If you are planning to travel overseas to South Sudan or any other challenging environments, RPS Partnership offers Travel Security Training Courses and a 3 day Hostile Environment Training Course which address the issues associated with ensuring your own safety whilst travelling for work or leisure.
