28 April 2017 - RPS Partnership

RPS Partnership has been working in Brazil for over 8 years and will be back there next month. So if you are planning to work or travel there, do get in touch with us for advice and training on [email protected]. Crime is on the increase and it can be a difficult place to live and work.

Today there will be widespread strikes all over the country. Please see below for our informative alert.

Brazil’s biggest union the Central Única de Trabajadores (CUT) union will hold a general strike and a series of protests nationwide on 28 April; today

The action has been called in opposition to labour and pensions reforms proposed by President Michel Temer’s government, which have sparked sometimes violent protests in recent weeks in Brasilia.

The strike and protests are likely to cause major disruption to travel and the closure of a range of services across the public and private sectors.

Protests have been organised in major cities across the country, including at Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro and in Largo da Batata in São Paulo, which are likely to attract crowds as large as tens of thousands of people.

The participation of public transport workers in the strike will lead to limited services and increased congestion on roads.

The main unions representing airport workers have also said they will strike, making flights likely to be subject to delays and cancellations.

The participation of bank workers will see limited assistance at banks, and adhesion to the strike by medical workers will lead to reduced services at hospitals, except for emergency care which should not be affected.

RPS Partnership's advice is to work from home if you can, stay away from the demonstrations and alter your travel plans to travel tomorrow. Contact us if you are not sure on twitter @rpspartnership or [email protected]
