This message has just been posted by the British FCO as a security alert.
The US embassy in the Garden City area of Cairo has been placed on lockdown after a suspected bomb attempt yesterday There are conflicting reports over the circumstances of the incident. Reuters reported that an individual was arrested by security forces after attempting to throw an explosive device at the embassy while social media reports indicate that the incident was perpetrated by a failed suicide bomber.
No casualties were reported. Details of the event remain limited but the incident has disrupted traffic and public transport in the area. Heightened security measures are likely at sensitive locations in Cairo which could impact movement. Individuals are advised to monitor the situation and avoid the area.
We at RPS Partnership, urge everyone in Cairo to be cautious as they work in the city and to report anything that they find suspicious. We know Cairo well and will be running courses there in October of this year. Watch out for pickpockets as markets in any country attact these unscrupulous people!
