Travel to Egypt ? It is worth being more vigilant at the moment

Posted: 23/03/2015

At least two suspected militants were killed and one injured in Egypt's northern Sharqiya governorate on 21 March. The suspected militants were killed during the premature detonation of a bomb at a garage in Al Ibrahimia.

The bombing is the latest in a spate of low-level attacks in urban centres in recent months; these have been attributed to Islamist extremists, supporters of Islamist political parties and anarchist groups. State facilities, personnel, infrastructure and business interests have been the most regularly targeted.

The spike in the frequency of such incidents is expected to persist in the short- to medium-term, at least. With the bombing of Extremists in Libya, further retaliation attacks, such as those just seen in Tunisia, can not be ruled out.

Travellers in Egypt should be super aware of their personal security if they are around the recently affected targets.

As in any country, if you see a suspicious package or a person, then report it to the security authorities and move away from the area as soon as you can.
