Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Saturday advised citizens against traveling to regions in Indonesia where terrorists are active, in light of a possible terrorist attack in the Southeast Asian country.

The high-risk regions include Central Sulawesi, Papua and West Papua, the ministry said. Visitors should also pay extra attention while traveling in bustling metropolitan areas of Indonesia.

The MOFA issued the warning after Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade published a travel advisory on its website on Feb. 25, in which it said "recent indications suggest that terrorists may be in the advanced stages of preparing attacks in Indonesia."

The department advised Australian citizens to exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia, including the popular tourist destination of Bali.

Taiwan's foreign ministry currently maintains a yellow travel alert for Indonesia, which warns people to exercise caution and to review whether they should travel to the affected area.

Under the MOFA's four-colour travel advisory system, the lowest warning level is gray, followed by yellow, then orange and finally red. A red alert is the highest warning level and advises people to refrain from traveling to the region in question.
