CRAZY FRIDAY - ever fancied going somewhere a little out of the ordinary?

Posted: 16/08/2013

This week's Crazy Friday will make you smile at the end of the week. Have you ever thought of going on holiday somewhere different? Perhaps a hotel doubling as a tree house or an ice palace with an individual snow bar may tickle the traveller blues and give bored holiday-goers the trip of their dreams.

The Elite Traveler Magazine in New York has compiled a list of the Top 10 most unusual hotels world-wide, which includes, beds open to the African skies, aquatic bathroom views and a room set 155 metres underground.

The Hotel de Glace in Quebec tops the list with its array of ice palace style bedrooms, bars and snow vaults. Each winter the rooms must be re-carved and provide new designs for each season.

Atlantis the Palm in Dubai is a towering hotel and resort built on an artificial island. The underwater suites, Poseidon and Neptune, boast floor to ceiling windows looking straight into the famed Ambassador Lagoon with some 65,000 marine creatures for company.

Guests at the underwater hideaway have included Robert de Niro and Lily Allen and with prices at a cool £5,700 per night it’s no surprise this hotel is famed for it’s wealthier clientele.

If you prefer your bed to be a little more over-ground then Hotel Costa Verde in Costa Rica may appeal.

A refurbished Boeing 727 aeroplane has been transformed into a two-bed suite embedded into a cliff side and overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Next, in Sweden, a collection of tree house suites in a remote pine forest are modelled on bird nests with ultra modern mirror cube rooms and even  a friendly UFO!

Those who are feeling a little eco-conscious could opt for Patagonia’s EcoCamp where environmentally friendly domes are immersed in the trees and powered by micro-hydrine turbines and solar panels to keep the traveller’s experience as green as possible.
