The U.S. Embassy has issued a Security Message for the following dates:

24 September - today

25 September - tomorrow

1 October 2015

On 23 September 2015 the U.S. Embassy in Abuja issued a Security Message regarding several upcoming dates and associated risks. 24 and 25 September mark the holidays of Id-el-Kabir, while 1 October is Nigerian National Day.

Security has been heightened nationwide, as terrorist groups may take advantage of increased crowds celebrating the holidays, as well as the significant nature of the dates, could motivate attacks.

Caution is especially advisable in large crowds, areas where foreigners or expatriates go for social reasons, and in the vicinity of mosques, churches and government buildings. Additionally, some travel delays caused by increased checkpoints and patrols should be planned for.
